Aelle's Coat of Arms

Description

This is a fictional coat of arms I created for the character Aelle and his family who are the Lords of Greathorpe in my novel.

If you know a few things about heraldry they're some fun little twists in there, notably that Red is the colour of war and bravery while white is the colour of peace and sincerity. The sleeping lion implies a force and courage that is not needed while the portcullis symbolises that the bearer is a last defence against an enemy. Solus Sumus means 'We are alone' in Latin.

I decided against putting a crest on it, I thought it would detract from the over all design.

That's a really clean design, especially the knight's helmet.

It always amazes me how much can be done with a very limited amount of colour. Black is so. Damn. Useful.

Thanks for the heraldry lesson, too!
